About The Position

The Assistant, Weekend Kennel is responsible for basic care of dogs and cats in a veterinary kennel setting. Duties include preparing food, providing water, walking and exercising animals, cleaning and sanitizing cages and runs, administering oral or topical medications, performing basic housekeeping, and entering patient notes into practice management software. The role requires basic animal care knowledge and animal behavior awareness, as well as at least six months of dog and cat handling and/or veterinary field experience. Work involves frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and following established safety practices. The position is hourly, pays $23.00 per hour, and is limited to up to 19 hours per week.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of dog and cat handling and/or veterinary field experience.
• Basic animal care experience, including feeding, animal ward sanitization, dog walking, cat care, and oral medication administration.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and animal behavior.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to perform duties involving standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling, and frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food for dogs and cats.
• Walk and exercise dogs and cats.
• Clean and sanitize dog and cat cages and runs.
• Administer oral or topical medications to dogs and cats.
• Perform basic housekeeping, including mopping, sweeping, and laundry.
• Enter patient notes into practice management software.
• Follow safety rules, report unsafe conditions or behavior, and take reasonable actions to prevent unsafe practices.
