About The Position

The Assistant Warehouse Manager supports the Warehouse Manager in overseeing daily warehouse operations to ensure materials, components, inventory, and finished goods are received, stored, organized, accurately recorded, and moved efficiently throughout the organization. This position provides hands-on leadership to warehouse employees, supports inventory accuracy, assists with material availability for production, and helps ensure warehouse activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established company procedures. The Assistant Warehouse Manager works closely with Production, Production Planning, Purchasing, Quality & Safety, Engineering, and other departments to ensure materials and inventory are available when needed and warehouse operations support overall business and production objectives. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, organized, data-driven leader with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain accountability, accuracy, and operational discipline in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, logistics, manufacturing, or a related leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory control, material handling, and logistics.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and warehouse best practices.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement principles.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret inventory and operational data and identify trends or discrepancies.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supervising, leading, training, or coordinating warehouse employees preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP, inventory management, warehouse management, or work-order management systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Warehouse Manager in managing and coordinating daily warehouse activities.
  • Support the efficient receiving, inspection, storage, movement, picking, staging, and distribution of materials, components, supplies, and finished goods.
  • Ensure warehouse activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and according to established procedures.
  • Assist with organizing warehouse locations to maximize space utilization, accessibility, safety, and workflow.
  • Monitor daily warehouse activities and identify operational issues that may impact production or customer deliveries.
  • Help establish and maintain appropriate warehouse priorities based on production and business requirements.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager in maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient warehouse environment.
  • Work closely with Production and Production Planning to ensure materials and components are available when required for scheduled work orders.
  • Monitor material availability and communicate shortages, discrepancies, or delays that may impact production.
  • Support the timely picking, staging, and delivery of materials to production.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning regarding work-order requirements and material readiness.
  • Assist with resolving material flow issues that could result in production delays or downtime.
  • Communicate recurring material or warehouse issues to the Warehouse Manager and appropriate departments.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records and physical inventory levels.
  • Support cycle counting, inventory audits, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and assist with identifying root causes.
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled, identified, stored, and recorded.
  • Monitor inventory movement to ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the company's inventory or ERP system.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining appropriate inventory controls.
  • Support efforts to improve inventory accuracy and reduce inventory discrepancies, shortages, and excess materials.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager, Engineering, and other subject-matter experts to develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) for warehouse processes and tasks.
  • Ensure SOPs and WIs are clear, practical, current, and suitable for employee training and daily reference.
  • Lead and support training of warehouse employees on approved SOPs, WIs, processes, and safety requirements.
  • Coach and mentor warehouse employees to promote consistency, productivity, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Monitor employee adherence to established procedures and address deviations appropriately.
  • Identify areas where additional training, clarification, or process documentation is needed.
  • Support the receiving of incoming materials, components, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure received materials are properly identified, counted, documented, and routed to the appropriate location.
  • Assist with preparing and staging materials and finished goods for shipment.
  • Support accurate shipping documentation and coordination with carriers as required.
  • Help investigate receiving or shipping discrepancies and communicate issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Assist in ensuring customer shipments and production-related materials are processed accurately and on schedule.
  • Ensure warehouse employees follow established safety procedures, company policies, SOPs, WIs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a safe and organized warehouse environment.
  • Monitor proper use of material-handling equipment and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, and potential safety concerns.
  • Partner with Quality & Safety to address warehouse safety and compliance issues.
  • Assist with implementing corrective actions related to warehouse safety or operational concerns.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to warehouse employees as assigned.
  • Assist with assigning and prioritizing warehouse tasks.
  • Monitor employee performance, productivity, attendance, quality, safety, and adherence to procedures.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to warehouse employees as appropriate.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager with addressing performance issues and maintaining employee accountability.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, ownership, and a positive work environment.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new warehouse employees.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used to monitor warehouse performance and operational status.
  • Maintain accurate warehouse records, reports, and operational data.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy, receiving, shipping, material availability, productivity, and other key warehouse metrics.
  • Analyze warehouse data to identify trends, recurring problems, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide timely updates to the Warehouse Manager regarding warehouse performance and significant operational issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, inventory accuracy, material flow, safety, organization, and productivity.
  • Assist with implementing process improvements and standardizing successful warehouse practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving activities.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other appropriate process-improvement principles where applicable.
  • Recommend improvements to warehouse layout, processes, inventory controls, and material flow.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, organization, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor warehouse equipment and work areas for issues that may affect productivity or safety.
  • Ensure material-handling equipment and warehouse areas are used appropriately.
  • Report equipment, facility, or maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with minimizing operational disruptions caused by equipment or facility issues.
  • Help maintain an organized and safe warehouse environment.
