About The Position

The Assistant Warehouse Manager assists with the oversight of the safe receipt, storage, retrieval, and timely dispatch of goods by directly receiving, warehousing, and distribution services. They ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met and assist with responsibility for the security of the building and product. They assist, as directed with the guidance of worker(s) including training and reporting issues to the Warehouse Manager. The Assistant Manager may also help operational staff with daily routine tasks as necessary. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisor or management experience in a warehouse setting.
  • Good team working skills – leadership and motivational skills.
  • Managerial skills – Ability to plan and organize work schedules, prepare routine administrative paperwork.

  • Logical reasoning –judgment, strong decision-making skills.
  • Numerical skills – Good math skills (sort, check, count, measure and verify numbers).
  • Valid NYS Driver's License for travel as required between service sites with company vehicle.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, crane, and back saw.
  • Accurately read calipers and measuring instruments determine inventory amounts and customer requirements.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment including safety shoes, gloves, and safety glasses when performing certain job duties.
  • Operator a telephone, cell phone, photocopier, calculator, and computer to send/receive email messages, post information to computer software including an ERP System and Microsoft Outlook365 Suite.
  • Moderate mental and visual attention required for performing manual work, machine operations, setups, inspections, and adjustments that require frequent decisions to detect and adjust for variance from proper operation.
  • May be required to operate equipment in congested areas involving considerable variety of movement.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, push, pull, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motion of hands and/or wrists.
  • Ability to exert more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Travel is required on an as needed basis to travel to other company site locations or as needed for other company business.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • After training, competent use of company ERP system.
  • Assist with inventory level control by conducting physical counts, reconciling with data storage system.
  • Support maintenance, regulatory and other activities associated with M&N transportation fleet including interaction with 3rd party lease and maintenance companies.
  • Assist in overseeing building facilities and grounds. Maintain physical conditions of warehouse, equipment, and vehicles by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Manage MRO levels and costs.
  • Assist in oversight of work environment to maintain a neat, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Continual effective communication with all internal and external clients.
  • Completed warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
  • Assist Warehouse Manager(s) when directed to work with warehouse staff by coaching, training, and mentoring staff in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort as needed or requested to meet department and or business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • Assist with purchases materials and/or commodity products.
  • Assist Warehouse Manager(s) with evaluating bids, negotiating price, delivery, quality, and service.
  • Follow up on all awards thorough completion of order.
  • Assist, as necessary, the Warehouse Manager(s) with any negotiation with suppliers regarding rejections, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes.
  • Participant in the quality initiatives, evaluate and rate our supplies, relative to production capability, performance, and delivery.
