About The Position

IDOC is seeking a dynamic corrections leader to serve as Assistant Warden of Operations at Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center. Lead diverse operational functions, oversee critical facility services, and support a safe, secure, and effective correctional environment. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement (public or private) organization, a correctional facility or related field.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification card and the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
  • Requires the ability to work overtime and duty administrative office hours.
  • Requires the ability to be on-call.
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides input into the development, establishment and implementation of institutional rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures of the institution to ensure proper operation of the daily functions.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Plans, organizes and directs the overall Operations functions and their managers, including security, physical plant operations, dietary services, individuals in custody discipline, and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
  • Conducts routine and unscheduled safety, health, sanitation and security inspection tours throughout the institution.
  • Serves on and/or assigns chair members of the Adjustment Committee, Employee Review Board and Assignment Committee.
  • Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, trainings and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution programs.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
