About The Position

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Nursing provides senior nursing leadership and is accountable for the strategic, operational, and professional practice oversight of nursing services within the Einstein Campus of Montefiore Medical Center. The AVP ensures the delivery of high‑quality, compassionate, culturally competent, and compliant patient care aligned with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and Montefiore values. This role advances nursing excellence through shared governance, clinical innovation, workforce development, quality improvement, and fiscal stewardship, while supporting Montefiore’s mission, vision, and balanced scorecard performance measures. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations and Executive Director of the Einstein Campus, the AVP of Nursing collaborates closely with the AVP of Operations, Medical Director, HR Leadership, and campus leaders to foster staff engagement, strengthen operational performance, and promote the delivery of high‑quality, efficient, and patient‑centered care. Success in this role requires a seasoned operator with advanced leadership capability, strong analytical and business acumen, and exceptional interpersonal and relationship‑management skills.

Requirements

  • Current NYS RN license (required)
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (required)
  • Nurse Executive certification (or eligibility; advanced certification preferred)
  • Progressive senior nursing leadership experience in an acute care environment
  • 8+ Years of Clinical Experience
  • 4+ Years of Managerial Experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in shared governance, quality improvement, workforce strategy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in developing long-term goals that align nursing practice with organizational, financial, and operational objectives.
  • Strong executive presence with proven leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of utilizing Lean tools to drive organizational process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for nursing practice standards, patient care outcomes, and professional nursing governance
  • Experience in developing and executing goals that align nursing practice with organizational, financial, and operational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, licensure, accreditation, and quality standards
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and professional development strategies
  • Drive patient experience, service excellence, and culturally competent care
  • Oversee operational performance, quality metrics, PI initiatives, and financial/resource management
  • Foster innovation, evidence‑based practice, research, and technology integration
  • Serve as a liaison with medical staff, labor partners, and interdisciplinary leaders
  • Represent Montefiore Nursing at internal and external forums, committees, and professional organizations
