Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer - Buildings
About The Position
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Irvine, CA. This role is ideal for a licensed Mechanical Engineer with strong healthcare project experience who brings a balance of technical leadership, project delivery, and client engagement. You will support the delivery of complex healthcare facilities while helping to grow WSP’s presence in the Southern California market. Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare facility design and delivery
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical design principles, and healthcare codes/standards
- Experience supporting projects from design through construction
- Proven ability to work in a client-facing, leadership role
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools

- Experience leading large, complex healthcare projects
- Established client relationships or network within the Southern California market
- Experience contributing to business development and proposals
- LEED AP or other sustainability credentials
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering staff
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead for mechanical engineering design on complex healthcare projects, including hospitals, medical centers, and life sciences facilities
- Lead and contribute to the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and close-out
- Oversee design of HVAC systems, air distribution, hydronic systems, plumbing, and central utility plants
- Ensure compliance with healthcare codes, standards, and local regulations
- Act as a key client interface, supporting project execution and long-term relationship development
- Support business development efforts, including pursuits, proposals, and client strategy
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated and high-quality solutions
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to team development and technical excellence
- Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications
