About The Position

Symetra is seeking an Assistant Vice President to join a fast-growing team of builders inside its Data Analytics organization, the AI Enablement team. This team's goal is to accelerate AI adoption across the company by building shared platforms, tooling, and patterns that let other teams effectively integrate AI into their workflows, and by shipping AI-powered applications for the most important use cases. As a senior leader, you will be responsible for a major part of what is built. You will lead cross-functional teams, with the exact scope shaped around your strengths and what the team needs as the company grows. You will set strategy and own delivery for your area, partner with the business and IT, and stay technical enough to lead builders.

Requirements

  • A seasoned leader with 12+ years of experience running data, analytics, or engineering function(s) and owning strategy.
  • 3+ years of proven experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams.
  • A track record of delivering AI or analytics solutions with real, measurable business impact.
  • Significant technical depth in data science and AI.
  • Strong executive presence: you build trust with senior business and IT leaders and bring others along.
  • Hands-on with AI: fluent with AI coding agents and modern AI (LLMs, RAG, and the like).
  • Change leadership expertise.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience standing up or scaling an AI or advanced-analytics function a plus.
  • Experience shipping AI or ML products (LLMs, RAG, evaluations) at scale a plus.
  • bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and business impact for your part of AI Enablement including key performance indicators and return on investment.
  • Lead several teams and the managers who run them.
  • Partner with senior leaders across the organization to translate AI into plans and roadmaps for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Use good judgment on when to apply AI vs a simpler solution, and stay close enough to the technology to guide builders.
  • Grow leaders and stay close to the work to guide technical decisions and uphold high standards.
