About The Position

The Assistant Vice President, Claims is responsible for managing a complex portfolio of reinsurance claims, influencing business outcomes, and driving operational excellence while partnering across functions and with external stakeholders. This role involves providing strategic oversight and management of complex reinsurance claims across multiple lines of business, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent resolution. The position requires analyzing and interpreting treaty reinsurance contracts, providing coverage determinations, and exercising sound judgment in claim evaluation, coverage analysis, and reserving within delegated authority. The Assistant Vice President will serve as a senior technical expert on reinsurance coverage, allocation, and claim strategy, collaborating with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and senior leadership to evaluate emerging trends, portfolio exposures, and business impact. Additionally, the role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, cedents, and external partners, conducting cedent audits, and preparing and delivering high-quality analysis and reporting on large losses and key exposures.

Requirements

• 10+ years of reinsurance claims experience, including expertise across multiple lines of business, with strong knowledge of Casualty and Professional Liability lines of business
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage complex claim scenarios using advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills
• Strong command of treaty language, with the ability to interpret coverage, identify exposures, and guide strategic decisions
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to senior leadership
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism
• High degree of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and sound judgment
• Proficiency with claims management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to travel domestically as business needs require

Nice To Haves

• J.D., CPCU, ARe, or other insurance/reinsurance industry designations are strongly preferred
