About The Position

Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School is seeking a dependable and knowledgeable Assistant Varsity Softball Coach to support the head coach in providing a positive, competitive, and student-centered program. The ideal candidate will help plan practices, develop student-athletes, coach during contests, and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth.

Requirements

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required
Demonstrated knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and age-appropriate skill development
Ability to effectively teach, motivate, supervise, and develop student-athletes
Strong communication, organization, reliability, and teamwork skills
Commitment to serving as a positive role model and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Ability to meet all district and MHSAA coaching, safety, background-check, and training requirements

Nice To Haves

Previous softball playing or coaching experience preferred
Commitment to sportsmanship, integrity, and student-centered coaching
Willingness to collaborate with the head coach, school staff, families, and community members
Ability to build positive relationships and contribute to a competitive team culture
Dependability, flexibility, and enthusiasm for supporting student-athletes on and off the field

Responsibilities

Assist the head coach with planning and conducting practices, conditioning, drills, and skill-development activities
Teach and reinforce softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, safety practices, and proper sportsmanship
Support game preparation and coaching responsibilities during regular-season, tournament, and postseason competition as assigned by the head coach
Provide constructive instruction and feedback that supports individual player growth and team development
Help supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, contests, team travel, and other program activities
Promote a positive team culture built on accountability, inclusion, leadership, academic success, and respect
Assist with equipment, uniforms, inventory, field preparation, facility care, and other operational needs of the program
Communicate professionally and collaborate with the head coach, student-athletes, families, coaching staff, athletic director, and school administration
Support offseason and youth-development opportunities when assigned and permitted
Follow all district, conference, and MHSAA policies, procedures, and regulations, and perform other program-related duties assigned by the head coach or athletic director
