About The Position

Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School is seeking a dependable and knowledgeable Assistant Varsity Softball Coach to support the head coach in providing a positive, competitive, and student-centered program. The ideal candidate will help plan practices, develop student-athletes, coach during contests, and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and age-appropriate skill development
  • Ability to effectively teach, motivate, supervise, and develop student-athletes
  • Strong communication, organization, reliability, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to serving as a positive role model and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Ability to meet all district and MHSAA coaching, safety, background-check, and training requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous softball playing or coaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with planning and conducting practices, conditioning, drills, and skill-development activities
  • Teach and reinforce softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, safety practices, and proper sportsmanship
  • Support game preparation and coaching responsibilities during regular-season, tournament, and postseason competition as assigned by the head coach
  • Provide constructive instruction and feedback that supports individual player growth and team development
  • Help supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, contests, team travel, and other program activities
  • Promote a positive team culture built on accountability, inclusion, leadership, academic success, and respect
  • Assist with equipment, uniforms, inventory, field preparation, facility care, and other operational needs of the program
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate with the head coach, student-athletes, families, coaching staff, athletic director, and school administration
  • Support offseason and youth-development opportunities when assigned and permitted
  • Follow all district, conference, and MHSAA policies, procedures, and regulations, and perform other program-related duties assigned by the head coach or athletic director
