The Eastern District of California is hiring Assistant United States Attorneys for its Criminal Division offices in Sacramento, Fresno, and Bakersfield. The office represents the federal government in litigation, including federal criminal prosecutions, civil lawsuits involving the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution for victims and taxpayers. Depending on the unit assignment, the attorney will handle criminal cases that may include complex white-collar matters, child exploitation, narcotics and violent crimes, immigration, and appeals. Unit assignments vary by office. Sacramento units include White Collar Crime, Special Prosecution, Transnational Organized Crime, Violent Crime & Firearms Trafficking, National Security, and Appellate. Fresno and Bakersfield units include White Collar Crime and Narcotics & Violent Crime. Responsibilities and case complexity will increase as training and experience progress. Applicants may be considered for vacancies at the locations they select and may identify a unit preference in their cover letter. The position requires occasional travel. The appointee must reside in the district or within 25 miles of it. Relocation expenses will not be authorized. A recruitment incentive may be considered for the Bakersfield location, depending on qualifications. Appointment is contingent on satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing; continued employment requires a favorable background investigation.
