About The Position

The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is hiring Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) for its Criminal Division. AUSAs lead investigations and prosecutions of serious federal crimes, work to hold offenders accountable, protect communities, and uphold the rule of law. The office has a collaborative, team-oriented environment where AUSAs typically build deep experience in a primary unit and may also work across subject-matter areas. Positions are available in Violent Crimes, Narcotics and Organized Crime, Public Corruption, Economic Crimes, Healthcare Fraud, and National Security and Cyber Crimes. AUSAs partner with federal agents and other agencies to develop evidence, build cases, and shape investigative and trial strategy. They represent the United States in court, negotiate and litigate cases, and develop and execute strategies for significant, often multi-defendant prosecutions. The work may address violent crime, drug trafficking, fraud, public corruption, and immigration offenses. The role calls for initiative and ownership: AUSAs may identify emerging threats, open and drive investigations, and pursue cases with law enforcement and agency partners. White-collar positions are intended for candidates with significant federal trial experience or demonstrated proficiency in white-collar or fraud-related cases and investigations. Candidates for Violent Crimes or Narcotics and Organized Crime should be motivated to investigate and prosecute violent offenders, gangs, cartel members, and their associates. Appointment is subject to preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment requires a favorable background investigation. AUSAs generally must reside in the district or within 25 miles of it. Travel may be required at a level of 25% or less. The announcement is open continuously, with hiring on a rolling basis as vacancies occur.
