About The Position

Carolina Casualty, a proud member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, specializes in liability, physical damage, cargo, and other insurance solutions for the commercial auto market, including trucking and public transportation industries. They are seeking an Assistant Underwriter to support their underwriting team.

Requirements

  • 1 – 3 years of Insurance and/or Commercial Auto (Trucking and Public Transportation) insurance underwriting experience preferred
  • 2+ years of data entry/data processing experience
  • Capable of working effectively with internal and external teams and partners
  • Superior customer experience skills
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management preferred
  • Insurance designations such as AINS, AU, etc., preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports the underwriting team by performing rating, policy issuance, document review, and customer service activities to ensure accurate and timely handling of new and renewal business.
  • Collects and analyzes data to rate new and renewal business.
  • Navigates efficiently in rating and issuance systems to ensure timely and accurate issuance of policies and policy amendments.
  • Adheres to all Carolina Casualty, underwriting, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Examines declarations, applications, signed forms, Motor Vehicle Reports, and other policy documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Interprets underwriting manuals and guidelines, rating manuals, forms, and workflows and provides improvement recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of technical underwriting processes and researches information as needed; participates in ongoing training as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with peers, Underwriters, and other departments to promptly and proactively address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Provides first-level contact for external customer service inquiries.
