About The Position

To assist with the overall operation of the classroom. This includes but is not limited to the following: assist with curriculum, develop parental rapport, ensure the safety and health of children, and provide a consistent, positive, caring environment to children in your care. Assist the lead teacher with maintaining an environment that meets licensing regulations; ratios, safety, sanitation, outdoor safety, diapering, potty training, primary caregiver requirements, discipline, and evacuation.

Requirements

  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Pass background checks.
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of working with young children.
  • Must be willing to accept supervision and constructive criticism.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and adhere to all written policies and philosophies of Lil’ People’s Place.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Assist other teachers in the classroom whenever necessary.
  • Treat all staff members professionally and fairly.
  • Know, understand, and implement the Lil’ People’s Place curriculum.
  • Complete required daily and weekly forms.
  • Prepare neat and accurate forms for parents, distributing timely.
  • Assist in overseeing the arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom as instructed by the Lead Teacher and Administration.
  • Assist in overseeing the general welfare, health, and safety of the children in your classroom.
  • Assist in planning, executing, and participating in age-appropriate activities for the social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and nutritional development of children.
  • Oversee the general welfare, health, and safety of all the children in the classroom.
  • Assist, execute, and participate in age-appropriate activities for the social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and nutritional development of children.
  • Adjust the program to children with special needs.
  • Treat all children of all races, religions, family backgrounds, and cultures impartially and with respect and consideration.
  • Provide children of both sexes equal opportunities to take part in all activities.
  • Help children deal with anger, sadness, and frustration by comforting them, identifying feelings, and helping children use words to solve their problems.
  • Mirror the behavior you expect, using manners and positive language.
  • Maintain primary caregiver role (Infant and Toddler classrooms).
  • Check diapers every hour and change diapers as needed.
  • Hold, rock, pick up, carry, and play with children at their level, which may include sitting/movement on the floor.
  • Greet children by name upon arrival.
  • Maintain simple daily reports and attendance records.
  • Complete head count sheets accurately on a daily basis.
  • Provide (Infant and toddler) parents with daily forms.
  • Record liquid intake, food consumption, and diaper changes/potty times accurately.
  • Observe and evaluate each child’s progress.
  • Use positive approaches to help children behave constructively.
  • Professionally discuss the developmental progress of each child with their parent(s).
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning private/personal information provided to you about a family/child.
  • Be available for parents' concerns, questions, and comments.
  • Form a team/work together with parents and the lead teacher to ensure the well-being of the child.
  • Participate in recommended training programs, courses, and other aspects of professional growth (16 hours required).
  • Abide by confidentiality rules concerning staff wages, status, raises, or disciplinary actions.
  • Alert the Lead Teacher / Administration of any concerns that may arise.
  • Carry out emergency procedures and drills.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members and parents.
  • Assume an equal share of daily housekeeping duties.
  • Be certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Think quickly and act appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Function under intense time pressure.
  • Be open to working in different rooms, when asked by Administration.
  • Adapt to change.
  • Work as a member of the Lil’ People’s Place team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality of care in all classrooms in the center.
  • Uphold the mission statement of Lil’ People’s Place at all times.
