About The Position

The Hillcrest Transitional Housing & Thrift Store teams are committed to moving individuals, youth and families from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The Assistant Thrift Store Manager must be a community advocate for our organization, our residents, and those in need of our services. The Assistant Thrift Store Manager is responsible for maintaining excellent customer service, assists in the day-to-day operation of the Hillcrest Thrift Store ensuring maximum sales and profitability through volunteer management, merchandising, inventory management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow written instructions, safety procedures, job aids, and company policies, and to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and volunteers.
  • Ability to process information and merchandise through computer system and POS register system.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, customers, and donors.
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation in English or Spanish.
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including sales floor, donation center, and register area.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days to oversee store operations.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate, confidential and thorough manner.
  • Familiarity with Windows, POS systems, Cashiering, Office, Google Drive, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Volgistics.
  • Ability to travel to Hillcrest sites throughout the Kansas City metro area.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer and maintaining outstanding standards.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and retention of Hillcrest Volunteers for the Thrift Store.
  • Assist in supporting the Hillcrest Program operations by working with case managers, residents, and graduates to meet basic needs.
  • Implementing and maintaining customer service standards.
  • Maintaining all merchandising standards, display presentation, signing standards and monitoring inventory levels.
  • Planning and assigning daily goals, tasks and assignments; assuring proper completion through follow-up.
  • Assisting in monitoring sales performance, through the analysis of sales reports and comparison shopping; assisting in adjusting strategies.
  • Maintaining adherence to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Serve in other duties, roles, responsibilities as needed by the organization to fulfill its mission.
