About The Position

We are seeking an energetic, professional, and service-oriented individual to serve as an Assistant Tennis Professional within The Gasparilla Inn’s Tennis Department. This position combines high-quality tennis and pickleball instruction and programming with member and guest service, pro shop operations, programming, and daily court preparation and maintenance. The ideal candidate will possess excellent instructional and communication skills, a commitment to superior customer service, and the ability to contribute to all aspects of the Racquets operation. When not teaching lessons or clinics, this position will assist with overseeing daily pro shop and front desk operations, court maintenance, and other departmental responsibilities to ensure an exceptional member and guest experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of relevant tennis coaching or teaching experience at a club or recreational level.
  • In-depth knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, instruction, and gameplay.
  • Knowledge of pickleball
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Must be flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to teach, inspire, and motivate players of all ages and skill levels
  • Ability to work both on court and in the pro shop/front desk throughout the workday.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely drive a golf cart
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Tennis teaching certification (PTR, USPTA) preferred.
  • Previous experience in retail, pro shop operations, or supervisory roles.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications.
  • Strong customer-service orientation — approachable, professional, and courteous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, members, and guests.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Tennis with planning and leading engaging, high-quality lessons and clinics.
  • Provide private, semi-private, and group instruction to juniors and adults across a wide range of skill levels.
  • Develop lesson plans tailored to players’ abilities, goals, and development needs.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of clinics, round robins, camps, tournaments, mixers, and special events.
  • Provide constructive feedback and monitor player progress.
  • Stay informed on current teaching methods, tennis techniques, rules, and industry trends.
  • Promote private lessons, clinics, tournaments, and other Racquets programming to members and guests.
  • Assist with overseeing daily pro shop and front desk operations, including sales, inventory, merchandising, reservations, and member and guest service.
  • Welcome members and guests, answer questions, and assist with court and lesson reservations.
  • Check in members and guests for lessons, clinics, and court reservations.
  • Schedule lessons and court reservations.
  • Process retail sales and daily point-of-sale transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with merchandise displays and inventory.
  • Assist with supporting, training, and providing direction to pro shop staff as needed.
  • Respond to member and guest inquiries and concerns in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and visually appealing pro shop and front desk environment.
  • Assist with promotions and special events related to the pro shop and Racquets programming.
  • Assist with daily court preparation and maintenance, including grooming Har-Tru courts, sweeping and lining courts, maintaining proper playing conditions, and preparing courts for play.
  • Prepare courts and equipment for lessons, clinics, tournaments, and special events.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the Tennis Department.
  • Ensure courts, equipment, pro shop areas, and Racquets facilities are clean, organized, and presented to the highest standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Racquets and fellow team members to provide an exceptional member and guest experience.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
