About The Position

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, renewable, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor of Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, beginning August 2026. This position is focused on excellence in undergraduate instruction, student engagement, and curricular innovation. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching a range of mathematics courses that serve majors in mathematics, science, and engineering, as well as the university's general education curriculum. There is no research expectation, but participation in scholarly activities related to teaching and learning is encouraged.

Requirements

Doctorate in Mathematics or a closely related field (by the time of appointment).
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the ability to effectively teach across the BS mathematics curriculum.
Ability to articulate concepts and instructions effectively to students.
Capacity to build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.
Skill in managing course materials, time, and administrative tasks like grading.
Familiarity with standard software for communication and online learning platforms.

Nice To Haves

18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics
Experience teaching mathematics at the college level.
Experience with innovative and inclusive pedagogies, such as active learning or technology-enhanced instruction.
Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
Experience with Mathematics education courses.
Engagement in student recruitment and outreach activities.
