About The Position

The School of Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Security (CJFSS) at The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor or Instructor of Forensic Science. This interdisciplinary school serves over 500 undergraduate students across degree programs in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, and Criminal Justice. CJFSS also offers undergraduate minors in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, and Security Studies, and a fully online graduate program in Criminal Justice. The school is located in the newly renovated Paul H. "Bud" Holmes Criminal Justice Building, which boasts over 30,000 square feet of modern teaching and research laboratories, classrooms, and a mock courtroom. The curriculum for Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Biology, and Forensic Chemistry programs is designed to equip students with a broad range of forensic techniques applicable in various settings. Students receive theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on experience in areas such as drug identification, serology and DNA analysis, fingerprint analysis, crime scene documentation, firearms identification, arson and explosives investigation, forensic photography, courtroom testimony, and footwear analysis.

Requirements

• Instructor of Forensic Science: Master's degree in forensic science or closely related discipline from an accredited university.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Specialized knowledge in the field of forensic science as demonstrated through graduate level coursework and/or professional experience.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Ability to teach effectively (both online and untraditional settings) at the university level in an undergraduate forensic science degree program.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Ability to articulate concepts and instructions effectively to students.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Ability to effectively engage in scholarly and service activities.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Ability to effectively advise and mentor students.
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Doctorate in forensic science or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Specialized knowledge in the field of forensic science as demonstrated through graduate level coursework and/or professional experience.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Ability to teach effectively (both online and in traditional settings) at the university level in an undergraduate forensic science degree program.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Ability to articulate concepts and instructions effectively to students.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Ability to effectively engage in scholarly and service activities.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Ability to effectively advise and mentor students.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship.

• Instructor of Forensic Science: Experience with online course delivery and instruction (Canvas Learning Management System).
• Instructor of Forensic Science: Ability to help students obtain internships in forensic laboratories or law enforcement agencies.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: At least three years of professional experience in forensic science.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Expertise in and ability to teach in two or more of the following areas: forensic quality management, survey of forensic science, introduction to forensic science, crime scene documentation, fingerprint analysis, forensic photography, digital forensics, firearms identification, arson and fire investigations, accident reconstruction, crime scene reconstruction, shooting reconstruction bloodstain pattern analysis, forensic pathology, forensic entomology, courtroom testimony.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Teaching, Mentoring, and service experience at the university level.
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Experience with online course delivery and instruction (Canvas Learning Management System).
• Assistant Teaching Professor: Ability to help students obtain internships in forensic laboratories or law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

• Teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the university level.
• Online and face-to-face course delivery and instruction.
• Preparing and submitting syllabi, grades, and other required course documentation in a timely manner.
• Engaging in scholarly and service activities commensurate with school, college, and university expectations.
• Attending school, college, and university meetings and recruitment events.
• Organizing and managing laboratory activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
