About The Position

The Philosophy & Religion program in the School of Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in Philosophy to begin Fall 2026. The program has a new inter-disciplinary BA in Philosophy, Religion, and Law that offers three pathways of concentration: Ethics, Philosophy of Law, and Religion and World Cultures. We are seeking a candidate who specializes in Philosophy of Law, with areas of competence in Ethics and teaching Critical Thinking (with a focus on LSAT preparation). The teaching load is 4/4.

Requirements

  • PhD in Philosophy by the time of appointment
  • Knowledge of computers and appropriate teaching technologies

Nice To Haves

  • A record of publication and scholarship as well as teaching experience in both conventional and online formats.
  • Knowledge of Canvas helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Philosophy of Law, Ethics, Critical Thinking, and survey courses in both conventional and online formats
  • Maintain active publishing and research agenda
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Participate in program assessment
  • Fulfill service obligations appropriate to teaching-track faculty
  • Performs other duties as assigned
