About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking enthusiastic and positive youth development professionals to serve as Assistant Teachers in their in-person Power Scholars Academy Summer Program at Dumbarton Elementary School. This part-time role runs from June to mid-July, with a starting pay of $16 per hour and the potential for up to 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Academic skills, including proficiency in elementary/middle school math and literacy.
  • Related college-level coursework.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and technological skills.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and service to diverse populations.
  • Proof of education (high school diploma/equivalent, unofficial college transcripts, college/university diploma, or teaching certification) must be attached to the application.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with certified teachers to implement enrichment programs for elementary school students.
  • Support the development of relevant lessons.
  • Ensure the academic and social development of scholars.
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify scholar needs and create instructional plans.
  • Monitor scholars' progress and make recommendations for adjustments.
  • Create a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Supervise scholars in daily activities and special functions, such as field trips.
