About The Position

The Assistant Teacher assists in implementing a program of developmentally appropriate activities under the direct supervision of a Lead Teacher with whom s/he is assigned to work. Work with all other staff members in a cooperative manner. Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher and the Director. Be open to constructive feedback and ideas. Assist in supervising all activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times. Assist the assigned teacher in implementing a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to promote the child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Assist in the arrangement and upkeep of classrooms, classroom equipment and materials as requested by the supervising teacher and/or Director. Assist in the development of classroom materials to be used by the children in conjunction with the planned activities. Use discipline techniques which provide for positive guidance, redirection, and the setting of clear-cut limits. All techniques shall be designed to help the child develop self-control, positive self-esteem and respect for the rights of others.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Completed a minimum of one year experience working with young children in a preschool setting.
  • Must be physically able to kneel/sit on the floor, bend over, move quickly, be on your feet for 3 hours, and to lift young children who need assistance
  • A negative TB test and a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card are required.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Must have a kind, gentle, patient, and happy disposition, genuine love for children
