About The Position

Chesapeake Montessori, a licensed school, is hiring an Assistant Teacher for its Toddler classroom. The Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher and classroom operations in keeping with the center’s philosophy and goals, encourages children’s development, and helps maintain a clean, safe environment. The role also involves building professional relationships with families and responding constructively to direction and feedback.

The required schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Compensation is $16–$17 per hour, based on experience and education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass all background checks.
• Previous early childhood education experience.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and fulfill the physical requirements of the role.

Nice To Haves

• Montessori experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher with all aspects of the classroom in a manner consistent with the center’s philosophy and goals.
• Implement activities that encourage children’s emotional, social, cognitive, creative, and physical development.
• Accept direction, constructive criticism, and feedback, and make improvements or changes as needed to support program quality.
• Create and maintain a clean and safe environment for children.
• Establish professional rapport with each family to provide quality care for children.
• Meet the physical requirements of working around young children, including sitting, standing, walking, running, and climbing stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds.
