About The Position

The assistant teacher, floating assistant, and substitute staff has the main responsibility of supporting the lead teacher in meeting the needs of the classroom and children, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and assigned tasks. This role focuses on actively collaborating in the integral stimulation and formation of children, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being at all times, while fostering a safe, enriching environment aligned with the school's values.

Requirements

  • HS Degree + Early Childhood NC Credentials (with at least 18 EC Ed credits) or Bachelor's in Education, Psychology.
  • AA/AAS in Early Childhood Development or Child Development.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).
  • Minimum of 1 year of verifiable experience in early childhood.
  • Proficient communication in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Creative and effective problem-solving.
  • Fostering teamwork and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and families.
  • Physical agility: Ability to move easily within the classroom, including kneeling, crouching, crawling, running, and jumping to interact with children at their level.
  • Active physical interaction: Ability to get down to the child's level physically, whether sitting on the floor or kneeling, to promote an environment of closeness and trust.
  • Adaptability to movement: Ability to make quick and precise movements when necessary to ensure children's safety, such as assisting them during play or in risky situations.
  • Criminal background check (DHHS Criminal Background Check).

Nice To Haves

  • Desirable Certification in CPR and first aid.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the lead teacher in the planning and execution of pedagogical activities, ensuring they are aligned with SFF! guidelines and policies.
  • Assists in the organization and supervision of daily classroom activities, promoting a structured and enriching environment.
  • Helps maintain updated daily attendance of children and reports any incidents to the lead teacher or administrative team.
  • Ensures all activities comply with DCDEE regulations and standards, as well as SFF! standards.
  • Actively participates in planning meetings, training workshops, and school events, contributing ideas and practical solutions to improve the educational experience.
  • Supports the preparation and execution of school events, ensuring the integration and well-being of children and families.
  • Complies with safety and hygiene standards established by SFF! and DCDEE, keeping the classroom clean, organized, and risk-free.
  • Ensures that materials and toys are safe, appropriate, and regularly disinfected.
  • Supervises children's personal hygiene practices, promoting healthy habits such as hand washing and organizing their belongings.
  • Promotes positive interactions among children, helping them develop social skills and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Provides emotional and physical support when necessary, respecting the individuality and specific needs of each child.
