About The Position

The Assistant Teacher provides essential classroom support to the lead teacher, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for students with disabilities. This role involves assisting with instruction, student supervision, and individualized support to promote academic and developmental growth.

Requirements

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Patience, adaptability, strong communication, and a passion for supporting children with disabilities.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs to assist students with mobility and classroom needs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and actively engage with students throughout the day.

Responsibilities

  • Support the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
  • Provide individualized assistance to students based on their learning needs.
  • Assist students with mobility, self-care, and daily routines.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Supervise students during transitions, mealtimes, and recess.
  • Maintain classroom organization, ensuring materials and equipment are accessible.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and provide guidance based on school policies.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents as necessary.
  • Prepare and set up learning materials for classroom instruction.
