Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
  • 6 months experience working with children - Required
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card - State Current Arizona Dept. of Health Services Fingerprint Clearance Card Upon Hire - Required
  • Current Child Care First Aid within 1 week of date of hire into position 7 Days - Required
  • Food Service\Food Handlers Card - Food Handlers card required within 7 days of employment 7 Days - Required
  • For those Assistant Teacher positions that will be required to drive HonorHealth vehicles, incumbent must have a clean driving record as defined by HonorHealth Network Driver Qualification Policy Q-359 (available upon request) and meet the following: 1) Must Be at least 21 years of age 2) Provide a current and valid Arizona driver's license 3) Have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Department of Motor Vehicles obtained and reviewed by Human Resources 4) Successfully complete the next available, quarterly conducted, in-house training HonorHealth Defensive Driving Course and provide a certificate of completion. - Required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of basic child development class or early childhood development class - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the other teaching staff in the care, supervision, health and safety of children in one specific age group or multi-age groupings.
  • Performing duties as planned in co-operation with the Lead Teacher or Teacher in charge, in accordance to the guidelines and standards of AZ Dept of Health Services (ADHS), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
  • Co-ordinating with the Lead Teacher or Teacher in the care, organization and cleanliness of the indoor/outdoor equipment and materials.
  • Assisting in the development of age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Participating in co-operation with the other teaching staff in providing input for planning and implementing a curriculum that meets the criteria of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as demonstrated by observation and documentation.
  • Planning and maintaining schedules and routines.
  • Assisting in providing a safe, stimulating physical environment.
  • Coordinating with all staff to meet center goals to keep the environment safe, clean, healthy and organized per Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) guidelines as demonstrated by observation and feedback.
  • Participating in the maintenance and arrangement of all classroom and playground equipment and materials as demonstrated by documentation and observation.
  • Maintaining communication with parents, children, and staff.
  • Consulting with the lead teacher and or coordinator regarding children’s needs and ensuring careful follow through occurs in a timely manner.
  • Acknowledging and assisting parents and children during drop off and pick-up time.
  • Communicating all relevant information to parents through children's daily logs.
  • Communicating information to classroom staff through the classroom journal.
  • Listening attentively to children, clearly responding to their questions and requests.
  • Encouraging children of all ages to use language by clearly repeating their sounds, asking open ended questions, and providing opportunities for positive interaction and dialogue throughout their day.
  • Practicing appropriate guidance and discipline techniques as outlined by ADHS and NAEYC.
  • Using age-appropriate guidance for each group assigned.
  • Demonstrating respect and caring for each child at all times.
  • Assisting in ensuring that attendance rosters, flash counts are maintained as required from the beginning to the end of the day and submitted to the coordinator.
  • Assisting in ensuring that all staff is made aware of the needs of children who require special care including those with individual education plans (IEPs) and medical needs.
  • Communicating clearly and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, parents and other customers.
  • Seeking assistance from in charge staff such as Lead Teacher or Coordinator to proof read written communication before sending it home to parents, etc.
