About The Position

YWCA Utah is seeking a full-time Assistant Teacher - Floater to join their team. This role is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and supervision of educational activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, ensuring their emotional and physical growth. The Assistant Teacher will provide developmentally appropriate care, guidance, and support to the children, assist them in acquiring social skills, and supervise feeding schedules. A key part of the role involves maintaining a clean, safe, and nurturing environment that reflects the cultural diversity of the children. The position also requires accurate record-keeping, monitoring the health and well-being of the children, and ensuring compliance with licensing and accreditation standards. The Assistant Teacher will collaborate with the teaching team and Lead Teacher to prepare materials and lesson plans, and maintain awareness of developmental guidelines and behavior management techniques. Requirements

  • 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children required.
  • An understanding of and agreement with YWCA Utah’s mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and commitment to anti-oppression work and social justice.
  • Understanding and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and anti-racism.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis, some weekends and evenings required.
  • Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems and technology.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established timeframe.
  • Demonstrated experience functioning within multidisciplinary settings.
  • Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
  • Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • If driving on business, a valid Utah driver’s license, access to an automobile, and valid auto insurance required.
  • Must be able to pass Department of Health and Human Services criminal background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, implementing and supervising infant/toddler/preschooler stimulation and educational activities to enhance their emotional and physical growth.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate care, comfort, nurturing and guidance to infants/toddlers/preschoolers.
  • Assist children with acquisition of age-appropriate social skills.
  • Supervise and implement appropriate feeding schedules and individual maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of facility according with health and hygiene standards, including but not limited to the toileting area, toys, cots, sheets, diaper changing area and food service/preparation area.
  • Work with teaching team to create and maintain a cheerful, aesthetically pleasing child care environment that reflects the cultural diversity and interests of the children.
  • Share responsibilities for accurate record keeping, data collection, and anecdotal child reports.
  • Monitor emotional and physical health of children, report all cases of suspected child abuse and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Maintain compliance to Child Care Licensing, Federal Food Program, NAEYC Accreditation and YWCA standards.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in preparation of materials of daily lesson plans, and alert director when supplies are running low or when toys or equipment are in need of repair.
  • Obtain and maintain adequate awareness and observance of appropriate developmental guidelines and techniques for behavior management in accordance with state licensing and NAEYC standards.
  • Uphold and act in accordance with the mission of the organization, vision, values and strategic direction of the organization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to understanding and using Sanctuary Model principles, language, and tools in daily work.
  • Model YWCA community standards and encourage program participants and other staff to follow them.
  • Understand and follow all established organizational and program related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Keep all records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, contractual, and legal requirements.
  • Satisfactorily perform all duties outlined in this job description.
  • Maintain all certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Permit, LCSW/CSW/SSW, etc.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, individual and/or group supervision, agency-wide staff and other trainings, as well as any other meetings and activities as requested.
  • Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff to protect the safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors.
