About The Position

FCC Canada, a subsidiary of the FCC Group with over 125 years of experience in engineering and construction, is involved in significant infrastructure projects across Canada. Currently, FCC Canada is part of a joint venture delivering the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line in Toronto. This project involves the design, construction, and operation of twin tunnels, underground stations, portals, and related infrastructure. The project utilizes a Progressive Design-Build model to foster collaboration between the owner and contractor. The Assistant Surveyor Manager will support the planning, organization, and execution of surveying operations for this major construction project, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with safety and project specifications.

Requirements

  • Civil 3D Proficiency required and MicroStation (OpenRoads).
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in the use of office, data, surveying and engineering-based software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Experience with MTO survey and design standards.
  • General knowledge of engineering principles and materials for civil / structural work standards and practices.
  • Knowledgeable in construction plan reading, attention to detail and project plans.
  • Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams.
  • Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A qualified and Licensed Land Surveyor is an asset (LSIT or CST).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead surveying operations on-site, including topographic, boundary, and construction layout surveys.
  • Supervise and mentor junior surveyors and survey assistants.
  • Provide directions on the safe operation of all types of survey equipment.
  • Process field data and prepare accurate survey reports, plans, and CAD files.
  • Ensure work in the field is completed in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with WCB regulations, company safety policies and communicate safety issues.
  • Coordinate and undertake planning and implementation of survey requirements to facilitate construction activities.
  • Define technical scopes and subcontracts.
  • Understand all aspects of the project specifications.
  • Conduct design review to ensure the accuracy of the files prior to being used for survey field calculations.
  • Ensure drawings being used are the latest, and correct drawings.
  • Provide layout at various stages of construction.
  • Prepare work plans and stakeout packages for construction survey field crews.
  • Ensure construction survey for both temporary and permanent work elements are correct.
  • Know and understand all aspects of the project specifications pertaining to project survey.
  • Attend scheduling meetings with the project disciplines and coordinate subsequent survey activities.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control checks to validate daily survey tasks.
  • Research and implement new technologies.
  • Maintain and verify high accuracy control network.
  • Ensure equipment and tools are well maintained and free of defects.
  • Equipment procurement, maintenance, calibrations and capital expenditure planning.
  • Maintain accurate survey records, documentation and stamped submittmitals.
  • Responsible for providing existing field conditions information to project engineers and management.
  • Provide clear communication with design team and construction team in a professional manner.
  • Manage As-Built information and digital records.
