About The Position

The Production Assistant Supervisor is responsible for hands-on leadership of teams within a production department, aiming to achieve daily production targets safely while developing employees to perform at high standards. This role involves general assembly of fabricated parts using various tools and equipment according to specifications. The Assistant Supervisor also trains, assigns work, and provides direction and instruction to employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-4 years of demonstrated experience with general assembly production procedures.
  • 1-2 years of industrial control panel assembly experience.
  • Basic working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other computer-based applications.
  • Experience with ERP systems, work orders, and workflow process.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Quick learning ability.
  • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Strong productive work ethic with high attention to quality.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain on call flexibility to control abnormal conditions.

  • Ability to plan, supervise, and perform essential job functions of assigned areas.
  • Ability to identify and count parts and subassemblies to complete internal inventory.
  • Competent to an intermediate level in equipment, processes, and tools for equipment production.
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, procedures and drawings with minimum supervision.
  • High School math skills including the ability to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
  • Ability to read and interpret work/parts orders and drawings and a thorough knowledge of company products and assembly operations.
  • Ability to operate a variety of material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, scales, and cameras) while carefully observing material handling safety rules.
  • Knowledge of various manual/air/electrically operated tools and jigs including wrenches, crimp tools, soldering irons, wire wrap tools and strippers, spray degreasers, or cleaning units.
  • Possess Industrial Control Panel experience that includes ability to read electrical schematics, understand voltages and components used, how to use a DMM (Digital Multimeter), and possess basic troubleshooting experience.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment in a hands-on role.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including ability to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule and daily or weekend overtime.
  • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • JDE experience is a plus.
  • Forklift certification and/or license may be required.
  • Possess leadership aptitude to accomplish work goals.
  • Working knowledge and experience with manufacturing and production KPIs/Analytics including the Production Efficiency (PEFF) system preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English, Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate daily with employees and supervisor.
  • Develop a team culture to achieve specification, yield, compliance, health and safety, and production targets.
  • Assign work, and provide instruction and guidance on proper procedures, etc., to employees.
  • Train and coach employees to understand specifications, yields, compliance, health and safety, and production targets.
  • Train personnel in the routine and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Monitor production and re-assign workers as necessary to meet production and shipping schedules.
  • Communicate with other departments/teams clearly and regularly regarding product delivery into the department to ensure efficient production and minimal waste.
  • Ensure employees are following work instructions and procedures, and using quality check lists, to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and with acceptable quality.
  • Engage employees in active problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Liaise closely with departmental quality staff to monitor production within safety and quality parameters.
  • Ensure all production machinery or work is performed or operated by a competent trained team member, operated safely and adhering to health and safety and work rules.
  • Advise supervisor of problems.
  • Liaise closely with departmental maintenance staff to ensure machinery breakdowns are attended to in a timely manner and maintenance is completed safely.
  • Monitor employee attendance, performance, or behavior, and notify supervisor of situations requiring follow-up corrective action.
  • Check work, parts orders, and inventory of components and parts to determine items that can be assembled.
  • Prepare work by studying assembly instructions, schematic drawings, and parts lists.
  • Assist supervisor with organizing daily production requirements and clearly communicating them to employees at the start of every shift.
  • Ensure all components for the next day's work are ready.
  • Ensure understanding of all applicable product specifications and communicate/show employees how the product should be processed or produced.
  • Perform all assembly and related operations direct labor work as required for maintaining production.
  • Monitor the daily production schedule and ensure all work and finished product have met specifications and standards, yield, and production targets.
  • Address problem areas when product quality falls outside acceptable limits and support production teams to bring production and/or processing under control.
  • Resolve assembly problems by verification of wiring to schematic drawing, and modification of drawings, with a qualified engineer.
  • Keep fixtures, tools, and/or equipment operational and eliminate production delays by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Notify supervisor of needed repairs and recommend new equipment.
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Assist in any and all departments as instructed by the supervisor, to facilitate quality, productivity, and timely delivery of product.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Directly supervise employees during the absence of the immediate supervisor.
  • Assist the supervisor by serving in a hands-on leadership role through assigning work; providing hands-on direction, instruction, and guidance; monitoring employee attendance, performance, and behavior; and communicating and engaging with employees on productivity, quality, delivery, maintenance, and health and safety.
