About The Position

Assistant Supervisor, Construction & Maintenance – Electric Division (Salary Range $27.13 - $43.42 / hour) The purpose of this classification is to assist in the supervision of operations and staff involved in the installation, construction and maintenance of electric lines for the Department of Public Utilities. Essential Functions Assist in supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff. Assists supervisor in the preventive and corrective maintenance /repairs on electrical distribution and transmission equipment and components, while organizing, prioritizing and assigning work. Assist in maintaining inventory of materials to complete projects. Assists in supervising preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on electrical distribution and transmission equipment and components: Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, guidelines, policies. and procedures Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated times and per established procedures: Conducts research and gathers information regarding assigned projects: Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices. Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software. Communicate with supervisors, DPU employees, outside agencies, customers, the public, and other individuals. Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures: May be required to work after normal business hours, weeke nds, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week to maintain service to customers. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in electrical line construction and maintenance or a related field; supplemented by five (5) years of experience in electrical line construction, and maintenance to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Must possess and maintain Lineman certification and Competent Person Certification for Excavation – Trenching and Shoring.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of power line construction both overhead and underground; excellent knowledge of the operation and capabilities of Digger Derrick, bucket truck, trenching machines and backhoes.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and/or tablet to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
