About The Position

The Construction Manager, Electric is responsible for planning and execution of electric infrastructure construction through utilization of contract resources including transmission line, distribution line, and substation projects. Essential Functions Works across internal departments supporting T&D construction needs. Understand and enforce OSHA/NWIBRT/NIPSCO Life Saving Rules and safety requirements. Work with outside construction firms, contractors, equipment and system vendors and other potential project stakeholders to understand and execute the construction perspective of capital projects. Work with external trade unions to understand the labor workforce needs and rules. Have a working knowledge of the National Maintenance Agreement Policies (NMA). Define the resources required to effectively complete the projects assigned. Assure compliance with construction/engineering standards and codes. Participate in the business planning and Asset Management processes (ICPP, Copper Leaf) to ensure that utilization of the company assets is maximized. Provide guidance and timely, relative, and quantifiable information to the project manager and department managers for balanced decision-making with regards to project risks and execution. Maintain industry, regulatory and economic knowledge to ensure alignment of corporate strategies with the current business environment. Display leadership and support to provide a safe work environment. Support Project Management and Major Projects as directed. Provide system support during storms or other system emergencies

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience working in industrial or electrical construction
  • Must have excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use various computer software systems (i.e., Microsoft 365)
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during storm and planned and unplanned outages.
  • Work hand in hand with work crews and effectively solve problems.
  • Must be able to work in areas of high noise, dust, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and chemical hazards.
  • Capability to efficiently perform duties under stringent deadlines, schedules, and conditions.
  • Must be proficient in the selection and application of proper construction principles and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of PMI project management practices.
  • Ability to encourage teamwork and motivate participation.
  • Adept at public speaking, making presentations, and other various communications with diverse personnel.
  • Exhibit strong technical writing skills and communications with diverse personnel.
  • Must have a working knowledge of budgeting and scheduling practices.
  • Must be able to use and interpret various types of mechanical / electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of capital project work scope estimating processes.
  • Knowledge of the processes associated with electric line and substation construction.
  • Be able to build advanced spreadsheets for budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Advanced Statistical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts and Working knowledge of financial and business practices in a competitive business environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management gained through PMP training.
  • The ability to travel within the Indiana NIPSCO electric service territory and potential overnight stay within the state of Indiana.
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.

  • Estimating experience in a large industrial environment.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of the NIPSCO Asset Management Process.
