About The Position

This role supports theatrical productions by designing and overseeing the construction of stage sets, collaborating with directors, and supervising student technical crews. The Play Assistant helps ensure safe, inclusive, and well-organized production environments while supporting students throughout rehearsals and performances.

Requirements

  • Colorado teaching license with an appropriate drama and theatre arts endorsement preferred
  • Experience in theater set design
  • Experience in designing and overseeing the construction of sets
  • Proficiency in design software and tools
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and materials
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Experience working with diverse learners

Responsibilities

  • Reading scripts, researching historical and thematic elements, and developing initial sketches and detailed drawings of set designs
  • Working with directors and other key personnel to ensure a cohesive visual effect
  • Creating cost estimates for set construction
  • Purchasing of set materials and supplies
  • Overseeing the building and assembly of sets with student tech crew
  • Training the student tech crew in safety protocols and operation of equipment
  • Sets the tech schedule with the musical director and communicates the schedule to all members of the tech crew
  • Attend play rehearsals, as needed
  • Supervises the tech crew at rehearsals and play performances
  • Will need to strike and load out set at the end of last performance
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues to carry out the mission of the performing arts department
  • Maintains professional communication and interactions with students, community, and staff
  • Utilize effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that build a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment
  • Model, instill and actively participate in building a supportive and positive culture in the performing arts department
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local drama and theatre arts standards
