About The Position

This is a salary exempt position where the Assistant Superintendent supervises the daily activities of safety, quality, and production procedures, as well as leading employees in all aspects of production. The role involves displaying a dedication to lead, participate, and support all safety and environmental rules and regulations. This includes making routine updates to policies, training, procedures, and permitting processes. The position is responsible for assisting the Location Superintendent in supervising all production staff, maintaining good working relationships, and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and FSMA requirements. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for daily plant operations, including safety and environmental compliance, food safety, quality control, production, cost optimization, and efficiencies. They must become familiar with dry bean standards, pesticides used in the dry bean seed industry, and their application, as well as understand and mix agricultural chemicals according to customer specifications. The role requires providing solutions and promoting collaboration among production, maintenance, and quality groups. The Assistant Superintendent is the first line of involvement with lock out/tag out procedures and confined space entries, and is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and suggesting initiatives for continuous improvement. They will review employee performance, assist in employee development, and coordinate production schedules and customer requests with management. Ensuring proper cleaning and sanitation of all process flows, observing equipment, and reporting concerns to maintenance are key duties. The role also involves troubleshooting and assisting in equipment repairs, directing maintenance activities safely, and implementing ADM’s safety permits and programs. The Assistant Superintendent leads the work of all production employees, provides routine feedback, and ensures daily production records and equipment inspections are completed accurately. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, appraising performance, rewarding, focusing employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and holidays, is required. The role also involves assisting in payroll activities and overseeing physical and digital inventories. Obtaining and maintaining a Professional Pesticide Applicator’s License is required for seed locations.

Requirements

Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties.
Capability of working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and ability to wear a respirator.
Ability to analyze information quickly to provide feedback in the manufacturing process and troubleshoot equipment failures.
Computer skills which include proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common business applications.
Ability to complete all operational tasks and fill in for hourly colleagues, including off hour shifts as needed.

Become familiar with pesticides used in the dry bean seed industry and their application.
Understand and mix agricultural chemicals according to customer specifications.

Lead work of all production employees.
Give feedback on a routine basis to all employees.
Review and ensure daily production records, equipment inspections, and other forms are completed in accordance with ADM’s policies and procedures.
Administer supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring and training employees; appraising performance; rewarding and focusing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with production, administrative, sales, and management teams.
Assist in all payroll activities including completion of time card calculations for temporary and full time colleagues, reviewing payroll clerks time sheets, and supplying information to staffing agencies.
Assist in overseeing physical and digital inventories including, bulk, consumables and chemical inventories.
Obtain and maintain Professional Pesticide Applicator’s License (seed locations only).
