About The Position

The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture, comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd., is leading the delivery of civil and track works for Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program. This program aims to significantly increase GO service across the network, including delivering two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. This investment will create thousands of jobs and economic opportunities. The Assistant Superintendent will support the supervision and coordination of trackwork construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to high-quality standards. This role involves close collaboration with various teams, including engineering, subcontractors, and other discipline leads, to resolve field issues and support constructability. The position also includes supporting crews during installation, testing, and commissioning, participating in site inspections, and coordinating labor, equipment, and materials for efficient resource utilization. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent will assist in monitoring subcontractor performance, maintaining project documentation, contributing to schedule development, and coordinating with other infrastructure disciplines for seamless field integration. A key aspect of the role is to follow and promote company policies, industry standards, and project-specific procedures related to safety, quality, and environmental compliance, while also providing guidance to junior team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in track construction, installation, or maintenance within rail or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of track installation techniques, including alignment, geometry, tamping, welding, and basic quality control practices.
  • Exposure to modern track construction equipment, technologies, and industry practices.
  • Ability to support subcontractor coordination and contribute to meeting project schedules while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction plans with guidance.
  • Basic understanding of construction safety standards (e.g., OHSA, CSA) and a commitment to safe work practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with rail transit systems and coordination with other construction disciplines is an asset.
  • Experience working on active construction sites with multiple stakeholders is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the supervision and coordination of trackwork construction activities, including installation of ballasted and non-ballasted track systems, direct fixation track, special trackwork, and embedded track.
  • Assist with daily field operations, helping ensure work is completed safely, in line with technical specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.
  • Work closely with the Trackwork Manager, engineering teams, subcontractors, and other discipline leads to help resolve field issues and support constructability discussions.
  • Support crews during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of track systems.
  • Participate in site inspections, progress tracking, and preparation of reports for project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Help coordinate on-site labor, equipment, and materials to support efficient resource utilization.
  • Assist with monitoring subcontractor performance, progress, and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support the maintenance of project documentation, including as-built records, quality documentation, safety observations, and daily construction logs.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of construction schedules and trackwork sequencing.
  • Coordinate with other infrastructure disciplines (civil, stations, systems, signals, etc.) to support smooth field integration.
  • Follow and promote company policies, industry standards, and project-specific procedures related to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members, forepersons, and crews as appropriate.
