About The Position

The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment provides visionary and strategic leadership for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning to ensure equitable access, high-quality instruction, and improved outcomes for all students. This role involves leadership in areas such as curriculum development, assessment systems, data analysis, professional development, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Title I coordination, and grant management. The position also includes specific duties like leading curriculum implementation, coordinating teacher induction programs, overseeing district assessment systems, supporting principals, planning professional development, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Licensed, or eligible for and able to be licensed by position start date, as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Master’s degree required
  • Demonstrated experience in PreK–12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment leadership
  • Strong understanding of assessment systems, accountability, and data use
  • Experience leading professional development and supporting educator growth
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, families, and community stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate preferred, in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
  • Ensure equitable access, high-quality instruction, and improved outcomes for all students.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of PreK–12 curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Coordinate teacher induction and mentor programs for educators in Years 1-3.
  • Oversee district assessment systems and accountability requirements, including MCAS.
  • Support principals and instructional leaders through data-informed instructional improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate districtwide professional development.
  • Oversee MTSS structures and alignment of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports.
  • Ensure equitable access to curriculum and instructional programs for all students.
  • Serve as Title I Coordinator and oversee Student Opportunity Act initiatives.
  • Manage curriculum- and instruction-related grants.
  • Oversee educator evaluation systems.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the Superintendent, School Committee, staff, and families.
  • Attend school committee meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Director of English Language Acquisition, District Literacy Coaches, K–12 Subject Matter Leaders, Grades 9–12 Subject Matter Leaders, and the District Head Nurse.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $165,000-$185,000
