About The Position

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our team. This full‑time, 12‑month position reports directly to the Director of Olympic Sports. The coach will support student‑athletes and contribute to the mission of the University of Oklahoma, the Athletics Department, and the Strength and Conditioning staff. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing sport‑specific training programs for assigned individuals and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or College, preferably in a health-related field
  • 24 months of experience as a college or professional strength coach
  • Ability to champion a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a demonstrated track record of developing collaborative relationships with both internal and external people.
  • Ability to develop, implement, adjust, and evaluate a comprehensive strength & conditioning program.
  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, coaches, and administrators.
  • Ability to recognize potential health risks of student athletes.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in continuing education and maintain professional, health, and safety certifications.
  • Ability and willingness to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, SEC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in educating student-athletes on safe and effective performance, training, and recovery.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
  • CSCS or CSCC Certification
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to explain and demonstrate proper movement patterns and lifting techniques as needed
  • Exposure to extreme temperature changes.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including in the heat and cold.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a full-time strength and conditioning coach at a Power Conference University.
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field
  • Experience working with a variety of sports, student athletes, and diverse populations.
  • Experience/knowledge of assigned sports.
  • Working Knowledge of University, Conference, and NCAA regulations
  • Possible supervision of strength and conditioning interns

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, design, implement, and administer comprehensive year-round, sport-specific training programs in collaboration with sport coaches.
  • Work closely with Nutrition, Sports Psychology, and Athletic Training to create individualized programs that align with each student-athlete’s needs, restrictions, and performance goals.
  • Collaborate with medical staff on the rehabilitation of injured student athletes and assist in the decision-making process for return to practice and return to competition status.
  • Provide written and verbal updates to supervisors, sport coaches, medical staff, and nutrition personnel.
  • Support the Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning with all aspects of the Strength & Conditioning program and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Assist the Strength & Conditioning unit with program planning, implementation, performance testing, and data entry.
  • Maintain daily organization, cleanliness, and safety standards of the training facility.
  • Participate in scheduled professional development meetings and present on assigned topics.
  • Assist in the mentorship and professional development of other performance staff members.
