Requirements

  • High school education or the equivalent required.
  • One to three years management experience required.
  • Must have a pleasing personality, be well groomed and create a favorable impression on those he or she meets.
  • Must have full knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting to maintain sales records and reports incidental to store operations.
  • Must be a person with excellent character references and a well-developed sense of responsibility.
  • A valid driver’s license and insurability is required.
  • Must be able to count all monies for store operations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must have a telephone and maintain it in operating order within telephone company's maintenance capabilities.
  • Must pass/complete background check.
  • Must be a licensed driver-must be insurable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate a Goodwill Retail store while fulfilling Goodwill’s mission statement.
  • Supervise workers in various personnel groups engaged in operating a retail store.
  • Work with individuals who have disabilities and or barriers to employment and participate in the achievement of their goals.
  • Demonstrate being a positive role model.
  • Display commitment and involvement towards Goodwill's mission.
  • Serve as Hiring Manager in Manager’s absence.
  • Complete employee work schedules, evaluations, ADP and handle customer complaints.
  • Oversee store operation including inventory, warehouse and stock rotation.
  • Perform all administrative and clerical details associated with store operation and order supplies as needed.
  • Provide supervision for all sales associate, processor, door attendants and team leaders.
  • Train employees and follow cash handling procedures.
  • Set an example for workers as a member of the management staff.
  • Exercise good judgment in handling the wide variety of day-to-day operational problems.
  • Be thoroughly familiar and continually stress the Goodwill sales philosophy.
  • Perform duties that are part of everyday supervisory job.
  • Complete employees work schedules. When manager is unavailable or as instructed by manager.
  • Complete employee evaluations as needed.
  • Counsel, terminate, fire, and train employees, when manager is unavailable.
  • Maintain ADP when manager is unavailable.
  • Maintain store premises and grounds in a clean, neat condition.
  • Schedule in case of manager’s absence.
  • Counsel/hire/fire etc. in managers’ absence.
  • Report need for repairs and recommend replacements as necessary.
  • Assure that the appearance of the store and premises is creditable at all times.
  • Supervise the sales force and processing areas where applicable.
  • Sell merchandise as time permits.
  • Attend to and satisfy customer’s needs.
  • Handle customer complaints in a fair and impartial manner, coordinating as necessary.
  • Promote special events.
  • Keep new merchandise area stocked, inventoried, and marked.
  • Adhere to new goods procedures.
  • Keep new goods inventoried as needed by corporate office.
  • Receive and check incoming stock new goods and supervise checkouts and stock transfers.
  • Check condition and placement of stock in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.
  • Rotate stock and mark down prices in accordance with store procedure.
  • Suggest and maintain displays and advertising ideas and prepare and place signs in sales areas and windows.
  • Perform administrative and clerical details of store operation: preparing stock requests, ordering forms, bags and other supplies, receiving, and disposing of mail, handling cash as directed by current procedures, etc.
  • Greet customers.
  • Maintain records of store operations as required.
  • Review and analyze sales to determine effectiveness of methods used and adequacy of prices.
  • Make recommendations to Store Manager, Area Manager, and Vice President of Operations.
  • Count all monies for store operations.
  • Make bank deposits with own transportation daily.
  • Work at least two nights per week.
  • Work Saturday and Sunday.
  • Ensure safe and monies are locked up at all times when working with monies.
  • Support mission statement and activities of other departments.
  • Represent Goodwill in the area served, striving to enhance the Goodwill image through individual and group participation.
  • Supervise solicitors and pick-up orders, including routing as authorized.
  • Safeguard the premises and material under his or her care at all times.
  • Seek to reduce the possibility of pilferage or burglary.
  • Constantly watch for fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Responsible for safety and well-being of all employees.
  • Adhere to all ethical standards and confidentiality of records.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and report violations.
  • Support the accessibility of our services and facilities free of architectural, attitudinal, environmental, financial, communication, transportation, employment and other barriers to persons with disabilities and barriers to employment.
  • Approve all hours worked and enter vacation, sick leave etc. in a timely manner for the employees at my location.
  • Drive to the bank to ensure secure delivery of bank deposits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follow program plan in work assignments.
  • Train store personnel in overall store operation.
  • Represent management to store personnel.
  • Advise and counsel store personnel as required.
  • Be fair and impartial in relations with store personnel.
  • Be uniformly courteous to customers.
  • Listen to any complaints and attempt to adjust within policy to the satisfaction of the customer when merchandise is defective.
  • Use good judgment and not hesitate to take responsibility.
  • Stress courtesy and enthusiasm to the public by all store workers.
  • Keep management informed of significant events.
  • Recommend changes in policies and procedures based on store operations.
  • Be particularly sensitive to management requests and adhere to deadlines and due dates.
