About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading the daily operations of a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. This position plays a vital role in advancing the organization's mission by providing exceptional customer service, maximizing store performance, and creating a welcoming environment for customers, donors, volunteers, and employees. The Assistant Store Manager helps develop team members, ensures operational excellence, and serves as the acting Store Manager in their absence. As a leader, the Assistant Store Manager demonstrates St. Vincent de Paul's core values of Authenticity, Teamwork, Compassion, Effective Communication, and Accountability in every interaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous retail leadership experience required; thrift store experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising employees and/or volunteers is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in onboarding, and training employees.
  • Help supervise, coach, and develop employees to achieve individual and team success.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-focused work environment.
  • Assist with employee scheduling to ensure adequate staffing while maintaining labor budgets.
  • Model professionalism, integrity, and servant leadership.
  • Support volunteers and court-ordered community service workers by ensuring they are welcomed, appropriately assigned, supervised, and accurately documented in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Assist with the daily operation of the thrift store, ensuring a safe, clean, organized, and inviting shopping environment.
  • Open and close the store following established procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, cash-handling procedures, and loss prevention practices.
  • Maintain attractive sales floors, displays, fitting rooms, and donation processing areas.
  • Monitor merchandise flow from donations to the sales floor to maximize productivity and sales.
  • Assist with inventory management and store organization.
  • Address operational challenges proactively and communicate effectively with the Store Manager.
  • Support merchandising strategies that maximize sales while providing customers with a quality shopping experience.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly sorted, priced, displayed, and replenished.
  • Assist with pricing initiatives, promotions, seasonal displays, and special sales events.
  • Monitor sales trends and identify opportunities to improve store performance.
  • Encourage productivity goals for processing and stocking merchandise.
  • Provide exceptional service to customers, donors, volunteers, and community members.
  • Create a welcoming environment that reflects the compassion and dignity of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and respectfully.
  • Express appreciation to donors and ensure donated goods are handled with care and gratitude.
  • Promote the mission of St. Vincent de Paul through positive interactions and community engagement.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, register balancing, and daily deposits.
  • Assist in protecting company assets through sound operational practices.
  • Support the achievement of sales goals.
  • Represent St. Vincent de Paul's mission and values in all interactions.
  • Recognize that thrift store sales directly support programs that provide food, housing assistance, emergency financial aid, and other essential services to neighbors in need.
