About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for assisting with overseeing the functioning and efficient operation of all departments, processes, and services rendered. The Assistant Store Manager assists the store manager with general operations and employees, acts as Store Manager or Department manager in their absence, and is responsible for promoting a positive culture within the department/store. They also assist with security issues, cover for other managers, ensure shifts have coverage, check and approve employee time, monitor overtime, and conduct interviews. This role provides customer service, works with department heads to ensure efficiency, directs and supervises employees, and facilitates the movement of products. The Assistant Store Manager deals with arising problems, reports maintenance needs, pays attention to seasonal maintenance, helps facilitate efficient staff use, and works with buyers and staff on inventory, stocking, and merchandising. They also help in departments as needed, assist customers, facilitate quick service at registers, and enforce safety, health, and security rules, adhering to all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training in a similar position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Internet Software; POS System; Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assists store manager with general operations and employees.
  • Acts as Store Manager or Department manager in their absence.
  • Opens and closes store.
  • Responsible for promoting a positive culture within the department/store.
  • Assists with security issues during and after business hours.
  • Covers for other managers/buyers in their absence.
  • Ensures all shifts have coverage/scheduling, checks and approves employees’ time, monitors weekly overtime.
  • Interviews for positions when needed.
  • Provides customer services regarding cashier, customer, and employee issues.
  • Assists and works with each department head and personnel to reach efficiency and smooth operation of each department.
  • Directs and supervises employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking, reconciling cash receipts, or performing services for customers.
  • Assists with facilitating the movement of products from receiving to merchandising in a quick and efficient manner.
  • Deals with any problems or issues that may arise.
  • Makes known any maintenance repairs needed.
  • Pays attention to seasonal maintenance requirements.
  • Helps facilitate efficient use of staff where and when needed.
  • Works with buyers and staff to help inventory, stock, and merchandise products.
  • Helps in departments as needed.
  • Helps customers with their shopping needs.
  • Helps facilitate quick service and exits for customers at registers.
  • Enforces safety, health, and security rules.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as required by management.
