About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager's purpose is to manage store operations to achieve maximum sales and profit while maintaining optimum store conditions. This role involves ensuring every customer receives prompt, courteous, and friendly service. As an employee-owned company, our mission is to offer quality food choices, support local farmers and producers, and develop and reinvest in our employee owners. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $44,880.00.

Requirements

  • Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions and descriptions to/from supervisors, co-workers, and employees concerning store/department policy/procedures and equipment usage.
  • Ability to read and write English; able to read instructions, merchandise labels, warehouse order codes, numbers, reports, and forms.
  • Ability to make decisions concerning merchandise placement, pricing, shelf space allocation, employee scheduling, expense control, product/supplies ordering, employee hiring/supervision, merchandising plans, department operational policies and procedures, and sales/promotion of merchandise.
  • Good interpersonal communications.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations/laws: Wage & Hour, Family Medical Leave Act, OSHA, ADA, EEO, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, Nutrition Labeling & Education Act, Weights and Measures, etc.
  • Mobility to move while conducting training and orientation of personnel, approximately 100 yards.
  • Mobility to supervise receiving of product, movement of product to floor or storage, opening/cutting of cases, inspect product quality, sort cases/merchandise, build displays, allocate shelf space, order merchandise and supplies, clean and maintain, remove trash/debris, perform price marking and signage, approximately 100 yards.
  • Ability to work on tile or concrete for a maximum of 8 hours in duration.
  • Ability to recognize cases, case cutter edge, case strips, shelf location, product size/description/quality, customers, shelf tags, labels on products, stocking carts, knives, scale, wrapper, department production equipment, cooler layout, packaging materials, debris on floor, aisle markers, and signs.
  • Ability to perceive color differences on product and product labels.
  • Ability to recognize cleaning/maintenance equipment, pallet jacks, forklifts, ovens, mixers, slicers, meat grinder, baler controls, etc.
  • Ability to respond to customer, co-worker, and vendor questions, comments, and responses.
  • Ability to respond to the sound of baler/pallet jack/forklift/cleaning equipment operation.
  • Ability to use and respond to the intercom/phone system.
  • Ability to read case labels/case strips, signs, tags, shelf signs, numbers, aisle markers, department forms, operational forms, reports, and employment forms.
  • Ability to read equipment and chemical warning labels.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior Grocery Store experience.
  • Prior experience as an Assistant Store Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the store to ensure prompt, courteous, and friendly customer service.
  • Attain sales, profit, expense, and labor budgets.
  • Manage departmental inventory levels and work with Department Managers to achieve them.
  • Ensure departments meet performance and productivity standards.
  • Complete and review various store reports including shrink, productivity, ad markdown, DSD price changes, display performance, out-of-stocks, safety store audit, transfers, credits, and reclaim.
  • Order merchandise and supplies from the warehouse and authorized vendors.
  • Receive and handle merchandise and supplies.
  • Perform store opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain new items and discontinued items program weekly.
  • Maintain outstanding store condition, including floors, windows, shelving, and equipment.
  • Implement effective back door and front-end security procedures, including employee purchase policies.
  • Maintain an effective store safety and fire prevention program.
  • Direct the authorization, receiving, recording, and SRP update of DSD products.
  • Ensure all merchandise is checked out at the correct price and that price changes and shelf tags are accurate.
  • Provide prompt and accurate service at the front end and service departments through supervision of training and scheduling.
  • Handle customer requests and complaints with courtesy.
  • Conduct store meetings with the Store Manager to review merchandising, sales planning, and operating problems.
  • Keep employees informed about job-related matters.
  • Supervise the selection, hiring, and training of store employees.
  • Make effective use of available training programs and materials.
  • Perform daily store walks, including the backroom, to identify needs.
  • Communicate store area needs to Department Managers.
  • Perform the same tasks as any employee when substituting or training.
