About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager functions under the direct supervision of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager. In the absence of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager supervises all associates working in the retail store. This role involves maintaining the store's appearance, motivating employees, handling transactions, assisting customers and donors, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety procedures. The position requires a flexible schedule, effective communication skills, and knowledge of various merchandise categories. The Assistant Store Manager also plays a key role in training, loss control, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of retail sales experience
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to obtain acceptable results for required background checks, including Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check and Department of Human Services- FBI Fingerprints.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including evenings, weekends and occasionally long hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Frequently
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally, (material handling equipment can be used to minimize effort expended, when practical)
  • Ability to perform prolonged walking and standing
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits

  • Knowledge of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as furniture and household items.
  • Know different shades and tones of color.
  • Know merchandise within a variety of categories: name brand, antiques, vintage, collectables, to name a few.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks and maintains interior and exterior of store in a neat, clean and orderly manner, including processing donated merchandise, placing new stock on the sales floor, pulling old stock, cleaning, returning out-of-place merchandise, and straightening disarranged merchandise.
  • Motivates employees to reach production guidelines.
  • Uses cash register to total sales, accepts payments, authorizes voids, returns, exchanges, and credit for merchandise. Balances cash register receipts, prepares daily bank deposits, and maintains records of store transactions. Ensures correct sales reports are submitted daily.
  • Maintains safe and appropriate conditions in shopping and backroom areas.
  • Assists customers/donors by selling merchandise or accepting donations of used goods.
  • Follows company policies and safety procedures for all undertakings on the job.
  • In the Manager’s absence, trains and assists other store employees.
  • May assist with conducting workplace orientations for new hires, ensuring personnel packets are complete, scanned to HR, and maintained securely.
  • May have more supervisory responsibility if the manager is absent or on vacation.
  • Informs the Manager of significant issues or incidents, including personnel and customer needs.
  • Maintains excellent hygiene/grooming standards.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers, donors, co-workers, and staff.
  • Performs basic job duties with a minimal amount of supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative.
  • Participates in the store's loss control by watching customers and employees and reporting suspicious activity.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment in the store, processing area and/or donation center by practicing good housekeeping practices or delegating those tasks to store employees.
  • Observes safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures compliance by employees.
  • Acts as a positive role model for employees, trainees and customers in all respects of professional development.
  • Ensures the store is open and operational during designated hours of operation.
  • Performs other functions, upon request, for the benefit of the Agency.
