About The Position

This recruitment is to fill a vacancy in our Walla Walla office. The State Auditor's Office (SAO) is looking for innovative, talented people to join their team to help them continue their important work of serving various governments and the people of Washington State. The Assistant State Auditor role is an excellent opportunity for innovators to join in the search for new ideas to ensure audits are relevant and provide value to the governments audited. Team Tri-Cities is one of 17 local audit teams within the Office of the Washington State Auditor and is responsible for conducting audits primarily in Benton, Columbia, Franklin, and Walla Walla Counties, as well as some audits in Adams and Grant Counties. They perform about 120 audits annually, including accountability, financial, and federal grant compliance audits for a wide variety of entities. Requirements

  • Written and verbal communication skills.

  • Assistant State Auditor 1: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three college-level accounting courses OR 4-years of business or relevant experience (minimum 1-year in accounting/auditing) OR any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Assistant State Auditor 2: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three college-level accounting courses AND one year of relevant experience (Government audit experience preferred) OR 5-years of business or relevant experience (minimum 2-years in accounting/auditing) (Government audit experience preferred) OR any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Assistant State Auditor 3: Bachelor's degree and completion of at least three college-level accounting classes AND two years of relevant experience (Government audit experience preferred) OR 6-years of relevant experience (minimum 3-years in accounting or auditing) (Government audit experience preferred) OR any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Government audit experience preferred for Assistant State Auditor 2 and 3.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance audits of Washington State agencies and local governments.
  • Performing special investigations pertaining to citizen concerns and/or frauds.
  • Reviewing the work of and providing mentoring to in-training level staff (at the Assistant State Auditor 3 level).
  • Participating in client discussions and/or presentations under the guidance of a supervisor or Audit Lead (at the Assistant State Auditor 2 level).
  • Completing most work in the field at the governmental entity, working in teams (at the Assistant State Auditor 1 level).
