About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented individual to become an Assistant Stall Superintendent. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Oaklawn’s racing program, ensuring compliance with all regulatory, policy, and safety requirements. The Assistant Stall Superintendent will play a key role in overseeing various aspects of the racing operations, from pre-race examinations to incident investigations, all while upholding the company's core values and commitment to a safe and exciting environment for guests and team members.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience in regulatory, compliance or enforcement environment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional and friendly demeanor in all situations.
  • Ability to handle several tasks at the same time.
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Accredited stewards preferred.
  • Previous work with thoroughbred horses a must.
  • Previous race track experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
  • Written communication skills in English may also be required.
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • All applicants must complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide oversight of Oaklawn’s racing integrity program to assure compliance with regulatory, policy and safety requirements impacting the racing program.
  • Develop, revise as necessary and monitor implementation of Oaklawn’s racing integrity plan, ensuring that it is conducted at the highest standards.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of morning pre-race veterinary exams and Lasix administration.
  • Provide afternoon assistance to Association Veterinarian.
  • Assist the Stewards and the Commission Veterinarian with out-of-competition and TCO2 testing.
  • Assist the Director of Operations and Security Staff with regular inspections of jockeys and the jockeys’ rooms; pony people, exercise riders, outriders, assistant starters, valets and others.
  • Assist the Director of Racing and Stewards in the investigation of any incidents resulting in equine injuries.
  • Maintains an attitude & philosophy consistent with the company Core Values and Standards of Behavior with internal & external guests.
  • Punctual attendance required.
  • Ability to work required overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.
