About The Position

Texas Performance Nutrition (TPN) is a team of sports nutrition experts who value building relationships, making an impact, maximizing opportunities, and advocating for the athletes we serve. As a strategic member of the Performance Nutrition Team, the Assistant Sports Dietitian will represent our program values, connect and consult with stakeholders spanning student-athletes, coaches, and support staff. This role maximizes sports performance nutrition, provides clinical care, and delivers nutrition education expertise to fuel University of Texas student-athletes to achieve the highest level of performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or related field.
  • A current Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Texas Registered Dietitian licensure or obtain within 1 month of hire.
  • Two years of experience providing nutrition services and education.
  • Knowledge of human nutrition, with an emphasis on performance nutrition expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and counseling skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience with nutritional analysis software, word processing, presentation software and database management software.
  • Ability to accurately assess and evaluate energy balance, resting metabolic rate, and total energy expenditure consistent with the physiological demands of the sport and activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of eating disorder and disordered eating signs and symptoms and experience providing nutrition counseling and working in a team setting providing care.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • Obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident (if not currently a Texas resident).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).
  • Two or more years of professional experience as a Sports Dietitian in a collegiate or professional sports nutrition program.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual nutrition counseling and clinical case management for assigned teams, with clear communication and escalation to the Assistant Athletics Director for Performance Nutrition & Clinical Dietetics on high-risk or complex cases.
  • Utilize all tools, resources, and established relationships to deliver individualized nutritional care that supports performance, health, and wellness.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and mental health staff to coordinate comprehensive athlete care.
  • Provide nutrition support for practices, competition, and travel for assigned teams as warranted.
  • Travel with assigned teams as required, including operating a UT or rental vehicle.
  • Develop and deliver group nutrition education initiatives utilizing a variety of platforms, including grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, technology, print materials, and social media.
  • Provide nutrition support for fuel stations, in-venue signage, and athlete-facing education aligned with TPN messaging and standards.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and support staff that result in trust, loyalty, and meaningful buy-in and behavior change.
  • Assist with the management of fuel stations and the supervision and training of performance nutrition volunteers and operations assistants.
  • Assist in monitoring menu implementation and nutrition education initiatives at the Texas Athletics Nutrition Center (TANC), in coordination with the TANC dietitian.
  • Investigate potential supplements and ensure nutrition supplement use policies and procedures are current and enforced.
  • Drive a UT or rental vehicle on and off campus.
  • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics.
  • Act ethically.
  • Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program.
  • Actively participate in assigned education and training programs.
  • Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws.
  • Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income.
  • Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR.
  • Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation.
  • Report incidents of prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy.
