About The Position

This position provides prosecution of criminal cases for Dorchester County, including trial preparation, plea agreements, hearings, court filings and jury trials. The role involves preparing necessary reports and interacting courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. The Assistant Solicitor assists the Solicitor and Deputy Solicitors in planning, coordinating, and supervising all administrative and legal activities of the Solicitor’s Office, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. They will maintain and manage individual caseloads in a timely and effective manner, prosecuting cases in all applicable County Courts, preparing cases for plea or trial, and presenting and arguing prepared cases in court as assigned. This role also involves extensive legal research and examining legal data to determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits, and recommending criminal prosecutions or civil penalties.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Current South Carolina Bar Admission and Certification
  • One (1) year of litigation or another trial-based experience
  • Valid driver’s license for South Carolina with a safe driving record
  • Notary Certification
