About The Position

Colby College, a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach who will also serve as the Papadellis Intern. This is a part-time, one-year appointment within the Softball program. The assistant coach will support the head coach in all aspects of running a competitive NCAA Division III softball program. Colby College boasts state-of-the-art athletic facilities and a comprehensive Peak Performance Program integrating sports medicine, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports sciences. Located in central Maine, the college offers excellent access to outdoor recreational venues. The starting rate for this position is $21.86 per hour.

Requirements

  • Ability to excel as a member of a diverse community
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing collegiate competition
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and to exercise sound judgement and discretion
  • Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
  • Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting/recruiting in and out of state
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the development of student athletes from varied backgrounds

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience coaching and or/competing at the collegiate level is highly desirable
  • Committed to the values of a liberal arts education

Responsibilities

  • On-site coaching in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices
  • Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members
  • Plan and prepare for games
  • Provide support and encouragement to student athletes, including academic counseling and advising
  • Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully
  • Research academic and athletic credentials
  • Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings
  • Organize and implement recruit visits
  • Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
  • Serve as an effective role model for college-age students
  • Comply with all guidelines, rules and regulations set forth by Colby College, the NESCAC and the NCAA
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the volleyball program
  • Provide effective communication to head coach
  • Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members
  • Assist with the coordination of team travel
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of a diverse workforce to the College’s overall success
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
