The Assistant Site Director, Nurse Anesthesia Program, at Jefferson College of Nursing, Thomas Jefferson University, Lehigh Valley Campus, plays a crucial role in ensuring the program's congruence with the mission of the College and University, and adherence to accreditation standards. This position involves assisting the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as budget management and day-to-day program operations. The role also requires maintaining clinical expertise by administering anesthesia one day per week and participating in clinical instruction. Responsibilities include reviewing applications, serving on the admissions committee, tracking clinical placements, and collaborating on laboratory and simulation activities. The Assistant Site Director will also be involved in student orientation, supervising clinical faculty, and maintaining communication with students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the role contributes to developing plans for success on the National Certification Examination (NCE), mentoring faculty, fostering a diverse student body, and providing oversight for student advisement and remediation. The position serves as a resource for faculty, assists in maintaining program databases and preparing reports, and collaborates with College leadership and University support services on various student-related activities. The Assistant Site Director also verifies graduation requirements, tracks NCE pass rates, and participates in annual curriculum reviews to ensure consistency with other advanced nurse practitioner programs and accreditation standards. The role involves organizing the curriculum, identifying clinical competencies, participating in didactic teaching, and maintaining program and student records. The Assistant Site Director represents the College on University Committees and undertakes teaching assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Master's degree preparation in nursing
  • Licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • National certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
  • Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in a collegiate nursing program or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of progressive leadership and academic responsibilities
  • Evidence of effective teaching
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity

Responsibilities

  • Ensures congruence between the mission of the College and University and the educational goals of the nurse anesthesia program in collaboration with the Director
  • Ensures congruence with standards established by the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Pennsylvania Board of Nursing, and certifying agencies in collaboration with the Director
  • Monitors the policies of the program's accrediting agency to ensure that the nurse anesthesia program maintains compliance in collaboration with the Director
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/ Site Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating the nurse anesthesia program curricula in cooperation with the faculty and staff
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the nurse anesthesia program budget that ensures adequate operating expenses, academic resources, appropriate number of faculty and support staff, and funds for faculty development
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in day-to-day program operations
  • Administers anesthesia one day per week to maintain his/her clinical expertise and participates in clinical instruction of students when they are assigned to the University affiliated hospital(s)
  • Reviews completed program applications
  • Participates as a member of the nurse anesthesia admissions selection committee
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in tracking and obtaining clinical placements for students
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in collaborating with the College's Director of Simulation and Clinical Skills to plan and implement laboratory and simulation activities
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in planning and implementing orientation for new students
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director with supervising, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientating, and evaluating of clinical faculty
  • Maintains open channels of communication with students, course faculty, and staff
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating a plan for success in the NCE in collaboration with the Director and faculty.
  • Serves as mentor and role model for teaching and clinical faculty
  • Provides an environment conducive to student engagement and participation and the assimilation and enrichment of a diverse student body
  • Provides oversight for student advisement and remediation
  • Serves as resource person to faculty for course related responsibilities
  • Assists the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director maintaining program data base in collaboration with staff
  • Prepares monthly and annual reports as requested by Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director
  • Collaborates with College leadership team and University support services related to recruitment, marketing, admission, registration, progression, and graduation activities
  • Verifies that students have met all requirements for graduation in collaboration with faculty as requested by Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director
  • Tracks pass rates on national certification examination in collaboration with Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director and faculty
  • Assists Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director in reviewing the nurse anesthesia program curriculum annually as part of the systematic evaluation plan
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Program Administrator/Site Director and the nurse anesthesia faculty to ensure a curriculum that is consistent with the other advanced nurse practitioner programs offered within the College of Nursing and the educational standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs
  • Organizes the curriculum to ensure logical sequence of teaching and learning identifies minimum clinical competencies required of all graduates; participates in the didactic teaching program; maintains program records/files, current cumulative student records/files, and clinical faculty records/files in collaboration with administrative assistant
  • Represents the College on select University Committees
  • Teaching as assigned
