About The Position

This role involves conducting thorough inspections and testing of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems to identify and resolve issues and defects. Responsibilities include assembling and disassembling signal crossing warning device equipment, troubleshooting problems, and carrying out necessary repairs. The Assistant Signal Person will construct, install, maintain, repair, and replace signal communication circuitry, systems, and components. This position requires the use of various machines, tools, vehicles, and equipment responsibly, while ensuring cleanliness of work areas. The role also involves operating company vehicles and traveling across a designated geographic territory. Candidates are expected to embrace change, demonstrate proactive behavior, actively contribute, and take ownership of tasks to ensure high-quality and timely completion. Fostering positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers, and effectively managing conflicts when they arise, are key aspects of this role. Adherence to all safety, operational, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and guidelines is mandatory, along with performing any additional assigned duties as required.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration both independently and within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information to colleagues and supervisors.
  • Successfully complete an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.
  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years or older.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship.
  • Agreement to wear mandatory personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection as required by the company.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) - Class A or Class B.
  • Completion of a recognized electrical training program (e.g., community college, trade/vocational school, military training) with a certificate.
  • Associate's degree or higher in electrical engineering or electronic technology.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, such as construction or farm machinery, demonstrated through professional, personal, or volunteer experience.
  • Experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions, proven through professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • Familiarity with adhering to safety protocols and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection.
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of railroad signaling devices.
  • Prior experience in a construction-oriented setting, whether professional, personal, or volunteer-based.
  • Ability to travel extensively, approximately 95-100% of the time.
  • Willingness to work in confined and/or small spaces.
  • Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, various shifts, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness and ability to work at heights of 20 feet or more.
  • Flexibility to potentially relocate during the course of employment.
