About The Position

CoreCivic is seeking an Assistant Shift Supervisor to support the supervision of administrative and operational security activities in a correctional or detention facility. The role directly supervises officers assigned to a shift and may serve as acting Shift Supervisor in the supervisor’s absence. The Assistant Shift Supervisor directs officers in supervising inmates or residents and protecting their legal rights, and conducts regular inspections of security-related and control-related functions. The position may require working any post assignment on any shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in a criminal justice field.
• One year of corrections experience, including care and custody of inmates or offenders; this requirement cannot be substituted.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to work any post assignment on any shift.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Experience with Microsoft Office or similar software applications.
• Additional education in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to two years.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise assigned security staff on the shift and evaluate subordinate staff performance.
• Demonstrate and provide guidance to staff on safety and security practices and post orders.
• Interpret, enforce, and comply with rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
• Attend meetings to improve effective communication between management, staff, and inmates or residents.
• Help streamline communications and maintain consistency of operations between shifts.
• Support supervision of administrative and operational security activities.
• Direct officers in duties related to supervising inmates or residents and protecting their legal rights.
• Conduct regular inspections of security-related and control-related functions.
• Serve as acting Shift Supervisor in the supervisor’s absence.
