About The Position

The Assistant Scientist carries out a research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives. The role contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promoting the University’s reputation in the field. This is a full-time staff position with the University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC, based at UHealth in Miami, Florida. Duties may vary according to departmental needs, and additional responsibilities may be assigned consistent with the role’s required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Requirements

Doctorate degree (PhD) required.
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required.
Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
Proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Contribute to basic and applied research activities and author scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.
Collaborate with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals.
Create and conduct experiments and analyze results.
Work with other researchers to use and develop end products.
Write extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff.
Provide ready access to experimental data for managing staff.
Request or acquire equipment and supplies for assigned projects.
Collect information using the internet, surveys, legal documents, and other available sources.
Apply for grants to continue research and prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
