About The Position

The Division of Vascular Surgery and Surgery Genomics Core (SGC) in the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, in collaboration with the UF Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center (SCIRC), invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure accruing Assistant Scientist. This faculty position will advance interdisciplinary research in chronic diseases including sepsis, vascular diseases and others, contributing directly to the SGC and SCIRC strategic priorities in data modeling, analysis and integration. The successful candidate will collaborate across disciplines to design, implement, and analyze studies that enhance chronic disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment through data modeling and translational approaches.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, or equivalent) in Biostatistics, or a related data science discipline.
  • Demonstrated research experience in chronic disease research, especially sepsis and vascular diseases.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and writing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Record of peer-reviewed publications in data science, sepsis and vascular disease research.
  • Experience managing or contributing to collaborative data science projects.
  • Expertise in statistical modeling and data analysis.
  • Expertise with high-throughput sequencing and genomics datasets.
  • Evidence of collaboration across programs, departments, or institutions.
  • Experience mentoring trainees or staff in research methods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct genomic and clinical data research addressing chronic disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Lead the data science team in Surgery Genomics Core for data processing and analysis.
  • Participate in and help with the collaborative projects including basic science and clinical trials, including design and data modeling.
  • Lead and contribute to grant applications (e.g., R01, U01, or equivalent) as PI, co-I, or site lead.
  • Publish in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific meetings.
  • Collaborate with investigators across SCIRC, UF Surgery, UF Health and statewide research networks.
  • Mentor research staff, trainees, and students in data sciences and methodology.
  • Ensure compliance with UF, federal, and sponsor research standards.
