About The Position

This position is responsible for performing various laboratory tasks to ensure product quality and support production. Key duties include sampling and testing raw materials and finished products, conducting microbiological testing and fermentation, preparing laboratory reagents, and performing physical chemistry and wet lab analyses. The role also involves assisting in investigations of nonconforming materials, maintaining product retains, calibrating and maintaining equipment, and managing laboratory supplies. Routine administrative tasks such as database maintenance, reporting, and spreadsheet development are also part of the role. Adherence to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and awareness of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, safety, and environmental conditions impacting product quality are essential. Periodic weekend work and swing/night shifts may be required.

Requirements

  • A four-year degree in a Biological discipline or four years of industry applicable production support/microbiological experience is required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific journals and technical procedures
  • Possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and peers
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as area, length, and volume
  • Able to calculate and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and statistical functions to practical situations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism such as graphs, formulas and scientific equations
  • Possess intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics
  • Capable of handling and planning multiple tasks and projects simultaneously under stringent deadlines
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to handle items and perceive attributes of objects
  • Able to perform light physical, non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature

Responsibilities

  • Perform raw material and finished product sampling and testing assuring adequate, appropriate, and complete documentation
  • Perform microbiological testing and fermentation to support production
  • Prepare a variety of medium types and laboratory reagents
  • Perform a variety of physical chemistry and wet lab analyses
  • Assist in the investigation of nonconforming materials
  • Maintain applicable product retains
  • Calibrate and maintain test stations and equipment
  • Monitor levels and order laboratory chemicals and materials
  • Perform routine administrative tasks such as maintaining sample databases, reporting results, spreadsheet development, internal communications, etc.
  • Adhere to GDP
  • Maintain awareness of GMP guidelines, safety requirements, and environmental conditions that can impact product quality
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to appropriate supervisor
  • Perform general department maintenance
  • Participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skill
